How often should exterior wood be cleaned?

This also depends entirely on factors such as weather, temperature, humidity, etc. We always use a moisture meter to check the wood surface to ensure it's within proper range before applying the stain or preservative.
What PSI is appropriate?
We typically recommend at least 3,000 PSI to properly clean the wood surface and open the pores of the wood. We typically operate in a range of 3,000-4,400 PSI depending on variables like project size, wood type, the previous finish, as well as overall surface build-up. An important thing to note is that PSI is of secondary importance to the skill level of the technician operating the machine. * Cleaning exterior wood surfaces in this PSI range carries significant risk, and should only be done by a trained professional to avoid damage or injury.
How long does exterior wood cleaning take?
This depends entirely on project size, square footage, water pressure, water quantity, the type of stain or finish that was used previously, and whether or not you're attempting to remove the old finish. Additionally the process duration depends largely on the skill level of the individual performing the work.
